The pay gap between PR and journalism is on the rise. What does this mean for PR pros?

Over the last 10 years, public relations professionals have seen an increase in average income. That's great to some, but unfair to those they work most closely with - journalists. While public relations salaries are on the rise, journalists compensation hasn't kept up.

The gap in salaries is increasing and the number of journalists is decreasing. In the long run, what will this do for the public relations professionals who rely so heavily on the media to get their stories out?

Click here to view the whole story on the discrepancy in pay between journalists and PR practitioners.

Laura Puerto, APR, wins 2014 Doris Fleischman Award!

Congratulations to one of our long-time chapter members, Laura Puerto, APR, who's most deservingly been awarded the Doris Fleischman Award at the state conference!

The Doris Fleischman Award is intended to honor the heretofore unrecognized contributions an
individual FPRA member has made to the public relations profession and/or to FPRA. In essence, this is an "unsung" hero award, intended to reward that individual who consistently provides support and
assistance to the organization.

The Fleischman Award was established to honor the achievements and contributions of Doris
Fleischman, business partner and wife of Edward L. Bernays, the "father" of public relations.
The award recognizes those FPRA members, who, like Ms. Fleischman, make contributions to the field of public relations through their consistent, tireless efforts. The award is meant to honor a member for
his/her "behind the scenes" work and FPRA volunteer efforts that go unnoticed by chapter members
and are not recognized by other awards programs.
