APR Trivia - July

Q: What is the name of the accrediting body that bestows the APR honors?

A: The Universal Accreditation Board. (Some people mistakenly think it is FPRA or PRSA, but the UAB is an international accrediting body supported by 10 member organizations, including FPRA.)

Golden Image Celebration at Conference

This year’s Golden Image Awards will mark the 55th year for recognizing outstanding public relations programs in Florida and will be held in conjunction with FPRA’s 74th Annual Conference at The Renaissance World Golf Village Resort. FPRA’s Annual Conference regularly attracts more than 220 public relations practitioners from across the state for professional development, networking and peer recognition in the form of gold. Founded by the nation’s oldest public relations organization, FPRA, the Golden Image Awards have become a standard of public relations excellence in the state of Florida.
Come and show your support to fellow FPRA members!

Dr. Dave Fleming to share life practices for living the best life possible at FPRA luncheon July 10

The Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA), Southwest Florida Chapter welcomes Dr. Dave Fleming, a nationally acclaimed speaker, author, and leadership coach, who will present, “Since You're Already Here, You Might as Well Live Well.” The monthly luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theater located at 1380 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, Florida 33907.

Dr. Fleming speaks and works with clients around the country to help them possess the power to live engaged, innovative and fulfilled lives. All too often daily responsibilities and requirements can eclipse the life we know is possible. But, rather than blocking us from our destiny, daily life can be the doorway to the best life has to offer, if we know how to approach it. Dr. Fleming will introduce us to four life practices that will supply energy and opportunities that make life full of purpose and passion.

The cost to attend the luncheon meeting is $20 for members, $25 for nonmembers, and $10 for students with advance reservations. Walk-ins are welcome for an additional fee of $5. For reservations or more information, please visit http://www.fpraswfl.org.

The Florida Public Relations Association is dedicated to developing public relations practitioners who, through ethical and standardized practices, enhance the public relations profession in Florida.

Still time to donate to FPREF

Every donation large or small will help FPREF reach its annual goal. Donations help support programs like scholarship funds for college students, Annual Conference scholarships for its professional members and to support the APR program.

Please consider joining the Southwest Florida Chapter and help support the professional development of professional members and students by making a contribution. The Southwest Florida Chapter Board has voted to match funds donated by our Chapter members up to $300.

With communications practices constantly evolving, we as public relations practitioners must adapt quickly. But how do we navigate the course successfully? This month, our Chapter will focus on media matters in hopes to help members and guests identify the best way to navigate the ever-changing communications terrain. The Southwest Florida Chapter will welcome key media representatives to our annual Media Breakfast event on June 21 to share recommendations for successful communication with local media outlets. Once you’ve whet your media appetite, members are encouraged to sign up for the second course to our media breakfast on June 29. The Media tour is a member-exclusive event which offers a behind the scenes look at the New-Press and WINK offices. And to complete your PR toolkit we will issue an updated media directory later this month, so keep an eye out.
